Five Star !

James 'Five Fingers' Ignatovich shot to GBFL glory on Sunday with a five goal haul against a plucky Chelsea team . Five Fingers rewrote the history books with his heroic efforts to join fellow legendary striker ( now stopper as he is too slow now) Ghassan Haddad as the highest goalscorer in a single game in GBFL history , ever !

Fingers' efforts were all brilliantly taken from way inside the 6 yard box and his performance helped his team turn round a one goal deficit as the Haitian team shocked Freeport FC by taking the lead. Freeport came back with a vengence however to strike 3 times in the first half amid pouring rain with goals from Five Fingers (2) and Stefano 'Red Bull' Borsetto . That was only a prelude to the second half as continued great front running from Jerone Cocker led to 3 further goals from the big man James in a style reminiscent of all time great Wednesday fatbloke David Hirst. Cocker , playing his last game befoe he jets out to Jamaica for 'business reasons' , topped off the scoring with a fine solo effort as Freeport romper to a 7 :2 victory. Aside from James 5 goal haul , highlights of the game belonged to Cabin Boy - sorry could not resist that one !! Actually best part of the game was when Justin (attempting an audacious 30 yard through pass) stubbed his foot into the ground in a move previously thought to belong solely to Tony Johns ! After 10 seconds of unrestrained laughter and guffawing everyone actually relaised that Captain My Captain was actually pretty hurt and - even worse- the Haitians nearly scored. Oh how we all laughed afterwards.

Not by any way seeking to capitalise on his performance , James Ignatovich took time after the game to announce the family's new boot cleaning service ( see previous post). Rumours that he has also signed deals with the website GaychoirBoysR_us .com and Anusol are still to be confirmed.

GBFL update

A perceived ( from some players apparently ) 'stroll to the title' by Freeport FC took a turn for the worse on sunday when Freeport FC (aka The Old Gits) were stunned by a tremndous 2nd half comeback by Brita Red Bull ( aka the Yout'). Cruising at half time with 2 goals from Jerone Cocker , the team proceeded to self destruct in the second half and ended up losing 3:2. To be fair to Brita, they fully deserved their win and now sit handily placed in second place on goal difference and are now brimming with confidence as the season goes into the second round. An absolute belter by Wilfred Guerrier, a second goal by Jacko Augustin i think ( don't ask me i'm just the centre-half which explains a lot really) and a neatly taken goal from Antonio 'Donuts' Charles gave the youngsters a deserved win in a second half that saw them really come of age and dominate all areas of the field .

Even the late arrival of Jimmy Fingers , flying in from the US, failed to halt the slide of Freeport FC. Indeed his impact on the game was immediate , within 20 seconds of him getting on the pitch the youngsters scored !

Freeport FC look to get back to winning ways on sunday against Chelsea but may again be without key players through injury , work or 'under the thumb-itis'. Loking on the bright side for the team , recent fitness reports indicate that perspirational Manager Tony Johns is still months away from first team football . Recent rumours had suggested he was almost back to match fitness but fortunately these appear to be unfounded.

Up next for the Youngsters are their new best friends , the Jarmaykarns, who were cheering them on wildly on sunday - probably because they don't have the ability to beat Freeport FC themselves !!! Tunch of Bossers !

The men's league comprises 4 teams the Club's Freeport FC , The club's youth team Brita Red Bull, Chelsea FC ( the Hayshun team) and Insurance Management Lions ( the jarmaykarns)

After 2 games in the men's division , Our old guys are joint top after a stunnning 2 nil victory over Chelsea. An own goal and Jimmy Fingers doing the damage in a sterling performance . The youngsters disappointingly lost 3 :1 to the Lions in a game they should have won but defensive errors in the first half proved costly .

In the only women's game so far, perennial champions dispatched our plucky ladies 3 goals to nil in an ominous display. Next women's fixtures are Sunday 12th
