Freeport 35 North Western University 21
With a huge game against Cuckoos coming on January 20th here in Freeport it was vital Freeport showed signs of regaining their championship form of last year. North Western had a fit and bigger side than Freeport and all the signs were Freeport could be in for a long afternoon!
This was soon dismissed when within 4 minutes Freeport used their speedy back to cut open the NW defense and allow Perkins Joseph to score under the posts. With NW dominating the forwards and Freeport the backs, the game was an open and well disciplined game with Kirk Antoni ensuring a free flowing match.
Soon the good work of the FPO back ensured another scintillating try by Geo Rolle and within 15 minutes Freeport held a 19-3 lead. However as the Freeport forwards tired the NW forwards began taking control and score rumbling try to cut the deficit before once again another breakaway lead Denny Osais to score in the corner for FPO.
The second half was much the same with NW coming into the match more with their forwards and Freeport looking to score everything their backs received the ball. In the end the teams swapped countless tries in the second half with Geo Rolle, an outrageous try from Jackelo Pierre summed up a wonderful afternoon of rugby and plenty of beers.
THANKS FOR THE North Western guys making the effort to come down and we look forward to seeing you next year.
