WELCOME TO THE NEW SEASON AT THE FREEPORT RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB

THE 2011 / 2012 YEAR STARTS OFF THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH WITH THE PRESIDENTS COCKTAIL PARTY

THE EVENING PROVIDES THE OPPORTUNITY TO PAY YOUR MEMBERSHIP FOR THE SEASON AND TO ENJOY COMPLIMENTARY DRINKS AND SNACKS. WE HEAVILY RELY ON MEMBERSHIP INCOME TO HELP US PROVIDE ALL THE YOUTH AND SENIOR PROGRAMS WE RUN AT THE CLUB. THE EVENING STARTS AT 7.00 PM SO PLEASE MAKE AN EFFORT TO COME ALONG.

All our Youth Programs will commence in October and a full schedule will be available in the first week of October. The Donnie and Mary’s girls soccer program has already started and their first weekend saw 190 young ladies sign up! Fantastic achievement and you can still sign up this Saturday from 12.30 pm.

We will also be running junior boys soccer (Wednesday’s) and Junior Rugby on Saturday mornings so look out for the all the information in the next week or so. The senior ladies run around on Monday’s at 6.30 pm and the Senior Soccer practice Wednesday’s at the same time, finally the Rugby guys train Tuesday and Thursday’s at 6.30 pm.

Four Freeport Players Make the National Team v Bermuda

Good news for Freeport Rugby with foru players being selected for the National Team to play Bermuda this weekend. Devon Cartwright, Edwin Jospeh, Kacy Charlton and Leon Mcphee all fly out to Bermuda today (Thursday April 28) to play in the World Cup qualifying game against Bermuda on Saturday. Accompanied by the assistant National Coach Peter Beirne who is Freeport’s Youth Development Office the guys should have a great weekend. We’ll post the result as soon as we receive it over the wires!!

Freeport lose Championship Final

Freeport lost the Championship Final in Nassau on Saturday 45-26 to Bailou. With the score at 12-7 to Bailou at half time its was pulsating game. Unfortunately for Freeport Bailou’s size, power and experience proved to much for a 25 minute spell in the second half before Freeport came back with 3 quick tries to make the score very admirable. Great game by the Freeport youngsters and it all looks good for the furture if the guys keep learning and improving. Special thanks to Peter Beirne for the work he’s done this season with the guys and everyone can be proud of the season overall.

Tony Johns, CEO of TJ Productions has announced the date for the 2011 James Bond Night at the Freeport Rugby Club. Friday February 18th is the date announced and Tony is hoping to build on the magical evening held in 2009.

With the Club in need of funds to keep its Youth Programs on track Tony thinks the evening will provide a great time for its guests and offer a chance to raise some funds for a great cause. Fancy dress will be in the theme of James Bond and this should provide an interesting evening, superb prizes for the best dressed and raffle winner should make it a star studded night.

Great music and some tasty delights from Antoni’s will be on offer and of course your complimentary Martini will be on hand!

Shaken not stirred is your only decision!!!!!!!!!!!

Freeport 19 – Bucc’s 12

Freeport kept themselves in the hunt for the Bahamas Cup with a hard earned victory against Bucc’s. With Bucc winning all the scrums and most of the lineouts Freeport had to defend to the last man and rely on some great running tries to sneak over the finishing line as winners! Well done to Bucc’s for such a strong game and bring a good drinking crew up from Nassau. Freeport blooded some young guns and it bodes well for the future of Rugby on the island.

XMAS EVE AT THE CLUB!

Continuing our tradition the Club will be hosting Santa at the club friday afternoon. The festivities start at 2pm with nibbles and some fantastic drink specials. The Cafferata Horn Section will play Santa in at 3.00pm on Friday. Please bring a gift for your own kid as Santa will not have room to buy presents for all the kids! Look forward to seeing at the club and Happy Xmas from us all at the Freeport Rugby Football Club!

Freeport take 14 Under 16′s to Nassau to play National Game against Cayman!

Great news this week from Freeport Football Club. Under the coaching of Peter Breine Freeport took 14 under 16′s to Nassau on Thursday December 16th to play two National Under 16 games against Cayman in Nassau. With Freeport making up 80% of the National Side it proves the hard work is all worthwhile. Full reports and pic’s to come and we wish them all the best for the two games.

Freeport/Atlanta Masters – Won One – Lost One in Mobile, Alabama

After travelling 12 hours to Mobile Alabama (much to Vick Skinner distress) Freeport Old boys joined forces with ORBS from Atlanta to play in the Battleship Rugby Tournament in Mobile Alabama. Freeport / Atlanta won their first match and lost the second to come in second place in the masters group. Much fun and frolics were had over the weekend and thanks to Atlanta for having us and thanks to all the old boys who made the effort to make the trip. Complete Squad – Rob Speller, Tony (the driver) Johns, Vick (half empty) Skinner, John (where did Friday go) Lane, Sean Graham, Nigel Kirkby, Dan Romence, Lee Rawlinson, Godfrey (the cat) Waugh, Kirk Antoni, Blair Antoni and Jeremy (Kassandra) Marquard.

Freeport 24 Cuckoos 24 – Historic Comeback earns Freeport a draw

What a day! Great Crowd, great weather and an exceptional rugby match. Freeport were 0-19 down to Cuckoos after only 30 minutes and seemed to be on a hiding to nothing despite dominating the first 15 minutes of the game. A full match report will follow but all you have to really know is that with NO time left on the clock Freeport’s new coach Peter Beirne had a conversation from the touchline to draw the game! With his run up already started the ball fell over, one glance to the ref indicated to Pete he had no option but to pick the ball up and drop kick the conversation…………….needless to say he is now a hero in these wild parts!!!! Congratulations to all the players, subs, bar tenders, shot makers, raffle drawers, bbq peoples, helpers and EVERYONE who was at the game…………
